Dogwood Arts Installs New ‘Art in Public Places’ Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition

30 New Outdoor Sculptures Installed Across Knoxville, Oak Ridge, Alcoa and Maryville 

Earlier this week, Dogwood Arts began installing the 2024-2025 Art In Public Places Sculpture Exhibition that includes 30 new outdoor sculptures across Knoxville, Oak Ridge, Maryville, and Alcoa. Installations will continue through Sunday, June 23rd. The exhibition includes thirty new sculptures selected by juror Andrea Bailey (Aslan Foundation, Knoxville Public Art Committee). The Dogwood Arts outdoor sculpture program, now in its 18th year, is expanding in 2024 with five new sculpture placements: South Knoxville at Johnson Architecture (1), East Knoxville at the Knoxville Botanical Gardens (1), and three placements along the Greenway in Maryville (3).

The largest concentration of sculptures (13) will be installed in Krutch Park (Downtown Knoxville) from 8AM-5PM on Sunday, June 23rd. Market Street between Clinch and Union Avenues will be closed to allow room for sculptures that require a crane for installation.

The exhibition includes artists from 14 different states across the country: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. Artists included in the exhibition: Matte Amante, Steve Buduo (2), Joe Chesla (2), Peter Dellert, Andy Denton (3), Brian Ferriby (2), Hanna Jubran, Ray Katz, Andrew Light, Beau Lyday, Harry McDaniel, Corrina Mensoff, Richard Morgan, Aldo Muzzarelli, John Parker, Ben Pierce (2), Charles Pilkey, Howard Russo, Ian Skinner, David Skora, Kevin Vanek, James Wade, Adam Walls, and Glenn Zweygardt.

The sculptures will be on display through June 2025 in Downtown Knoxville (Krutch Park, Emory Place, Maker Exchange, UT Gardens), East Knoxville (Knoxville Botanical Gardens, Zoo Knoxville, The Muse), West Knoxville (ORNL Federal Credit Union–Northshore Branch), Oak Ridge (American Museum of Science & Energy, Jackson Square, ORNL Federal Credit Union–Oak Ridge Branch), and Maryville/Alcoa (Greenway near the Blount County Courthouse, McGhee Tyson Airport). The full exhibition includes 38 sculptures (30 new, 8 on permanent display).

About Art in Public Places: The Art in Public Places program brings art outside, adding character and beauty to our city streets and spaces.  The program includes an annually rotating, outdoor sculpture exhibition and a large-scale mural program that is entering its second year. The sculptures are installed in prominent locations throughout Knoxville, Oak Ridge, and Alcoa. Started in 2007 by Eddie Mannis and Bart Watkins, the sculpture program has curated and installed 316 works of art and gained national recognition as a platform for exhibiting world-class sculptors.

About the Juror (Andrea Bailey): Andrea Bailey is a nonprofit professional with over twenty years of experience building organizational capacity. Andrea combines passion and education in cultural nonprofits with business acumen to effectively lead transformational initiatives. As Executive Director of the Aslan Foundation, Andrea oversees all grantmaking, public private partnerships, and Foundation projects. Responsibilities include strategic planning, program development, community relations, financial oversight, and day to day management of a hundred and seventy-five acres of foundation property, park land, and buildings. Andrea’s past experience includes leadership roles in cultural organizations in Orlando and Boston with a focus on physical and programmatic expansion.  Her bachelor’s degree in art history and master’s degree in business illustrate Andrea’s interest in building sustainability and nurturing innovation within the creative community. Growing up in a family of artists and makers, Andrea values the creative process in all of its wonderful, sometimes frustrating, and always interesting forms. Andrea also currently serves as the Chair of the City of Knoxville Public Art Committee.
