Crumbsnatchers bring their raucous energy home

The Crumbsnatchers and The Weeks will share the stage at Knoxville’s newest venue on Friday, October 1st.

Crumbsnatchers delivers an upbeat party vibe that is influenced by punk, new wave music like BRONCHO, as well as the classic band, The Talking Heads. Founder Samuel Guetterman’s (A.K.A. ‘Guetts’) last album, Big House, was written with emotional drive, but since then his own personal growth has inspired him to write more, “silly, high energy, and fun music,” he says, “which is the type of music the crowd can expect to hear on Friday.” The band has rotated through a few mates, and is now touring with Ethan Mausolf on drums, Patrick Sewalk on bass, and Karalyne Winegarner on keys.

The name Crumbsnatchers originated from Guetts’ experience in military school as a teenager, where he experienced unsanitary living conditions and physical abuse. According to Guetts, the students were often insulted and referred to as Crumbsnatchers meaning, “moochers or somebody who can’t do anything for themselves; like a little mouse,” he explains. At the school, music was off limits, but Guetts was lucky enough to get a hold of a Radiohead album that he and his friend would listen to under their beds. Guetts later felt that naming his band Crumbsnatchers would allow him to re-own the term and bring back power to himself.

Guetts and guitarist Philip Mosteller met at a young age through their Knoxville church, “We would play and share music together,” Guetts says, “It’s the only thing we wanted to do.” They continued to play for numerous bands while working in restaurants until one day Guetts decided to go all in, “I had to talk Philip into it,” he says.

After thoroughly touring in and around Knoxville, the band was ready for a change of scenery, and made the move to the big music city two years ago to fully pursue music. “I love Knoxville, it will always be my home, but I need to branch out for personal growth; to experience new things,” Guetts explains. He continued to explain that surrounding himself with like-minded musicians has helped his motivation.

The Crumbsnatchers are now on the last leg of a mini tour promoting their newest music video, ‘Satin Glow’ and will return to Nashville to play at the Basement with Jive Talk and Travolta after their Knoxville appearance as part of The Outpost’s outdoor concert series. A new album can be expected this spring. Until then, come join the band, dance, and sing to the Crumbsnatchers’ much needed upbeat music. “Getting back in front of people, I love it. I missed it so much, performing, traveling; I’m in heaven,” Guetts says.
