Over 280 volunteers expected for the 2018 South Knoxville Clean Up
On Saturday, March 17, Keep Knoxville Beautiful will be hosting its second annual community-wide South Knoxville Cleanup from 9:00 am–12:00 pm. The event will kick off at Sam Duff Memorial Park located at 4060 Chapman Highway.
The South Knoxville Community Cleanup was first hosted in March 2017 when South Knoxville was Keep Knoxville Beautiful’s “Community of the Year”. Over 300 turned out making it KKB”s largest volunteer event. This year, over 280 volunteers are expected to participate in the cleanup.
Participating community leaders from various South Knoxville neighborhoods will meet at the kickoff event, pick up supplies, and then disperse into their own neighborhoods to pick up litter. Individuals will clean the streets surrounding Duff Field. Community groups participating include Wildlife Habitats of South Woodlawn, Boy Scout Troop 255, BSA Troop 36, South Doyle Neighborhood Association, South Haven Neighborhood Association, Colonial Village Neighborhood Association, Island Home Park, and Old Sevier Community Group,
Volunteers will reconvene at Sam Duff Park for lunch and volunteer t-shirts provided by Smoke-Free Knoxville.

Founded in 1978 to help “clean up” prior to the 1982 World’s Fair, Keep Knoxville Beautiful is a local non-profit with a mission to promote a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful community. We pursue this by:
- Educating students and the public about waste-prevention, litter, recycling, and environmental stewardship
- Facilitating and supporting litter pickups that make our roads and local waterways cleaner

During 2017, we
- Facilitated or supported 70 litter pickups
- Collected 44,327 pounds of litter
- Planted 20,000+ daffodil and tulip bulbs
- Planted 101 trees
- Reached 1,998 kids with our presentations
- Used our recycling trailer and recycling bins to provide recycling for 8 events
- Worked with 1,572 volunteers
- Facilitated 3,511 volunteer hours
