The Color and Sound Therapy Known as Tycho

Friday night wrapped us in soft, silky fall temperatures and with it came the comforting, ambient sounds of Tycho, San Francisco’s downtempo, electronic dream pop project led by Scott Hansen.

Tycho, touring with his live band, played to a room of wide-eyed, smiling Angelinos. One thing is for certain, Tycho has perfected capturing the dynamics of a live band while remaining true to his EDM roots. It comes as no surprise that Friday’s show at the Fonda was sold out.

Being the visual artist he is, Hansen also brought a rather artistically curated light show. The seemingly natural lighting, consisting of soft pastels, ethereal forms, shifting clouds and artificial sunrises and sunsets reminded of the many perfect sunrises and sunsets we get to enjoy in this city. It created a nostalgic mood of sorts, which complimented the atmospheric tracks. So if the music alone didn’t instantly chill you out and relieve you of any stress you might have built up during the week, this type of color therapy was nothing short of magical and would have mellowed out event the grumpiest of grumpies.

Tycho is playing two more shows in San Francisco this weekend before heading to the other side of the globe. You can purchase tickets at tychomusic.com. I encourage you to treat yourself to a night of sexy tunes. Do not miss this masterpiece of a performance.
