The electronic music trio The Glitch Mob from Los Angeles, currently on tour with their 2014 album Love Death Immortality, performed at Marathon Music Works on March 18. Although it was a Tuesday, the venue was packed full – and for a good reason: three incredibly talented men stood in front of their laptops and rocked the stage like dirty, nasty sweetness. And they brought with them a light show that made you think you entered a computer game. The entire house was dancing.
They played a good mix of new and old electronica, sampling old favorites like “Firestarter” by The Prodigy. Their music also included a fair amount of rap influences, for example a sample of “California Love” by the legendary 2Pac. Overall, a very well rounded show.
The Glitch Mob was formed back in 2006 and first earned attention in Los Angeles and San Francisco. They then performed at various festivals and grew their fan base rather quickly. No wonder – not often do you see three DJs on stage working together in perfect harmony to deliver a once in a lifetime type show. Love Death Immortality is only their second album and one can only hope that many more will follow.
