Drenched with alt-pop dance hits, Matt & Kim’s fifth studio album, New Glow, gives fans a new sample of the boy-girl duo we’ve come to know and love. While each track is still founded on catchy hooks and danceable beats, they’ve taken things a step further and taken the energy to the max. You can’t listen to this album and still be in a funk by the end of it – you just can’t.

Infectious, constant energy pulses through this album. And while this is still the classic electro-pop, frenzied style of Matt & Kim, they delve further into the hip-hop and EDM realms than ever before.

Not only are Matt Johnson and Kim Schifino a musical duo, but they are a romantic duo as well. And now more than ever the two are revealing their relationship through their music, such as with the opener “Hey Now,” where Johnson sings, “Sometimes you just make me lose my mind. But if you died, I’d die right by your side.” It’s as if they truly do have a new glow about them, and we can rely on a continued stream of this fun music as long as the duo remains a couple.

If you’re looking for a pensive, brooding listen then you’re going to have to look elsewhere. But if you want a release that’s going to cheer you up before a long day of work or psych you up for a night out on the town, go for New Glow.

While there’s more to life than its intermittent feel-good highs, it’s nice to have an album chock full of those good vibes. Matt and Kim are fulfilling a niche here; they’re continuing to create simplistic, entertaining songs. And while they might not have many in-depth words of wisdom to share, it’s frankly just a fun album.

Listening to Matt & Kim is like an at-home amusement park experience, and their live shows promise to be that much more energetic.

The two will be touring until the end of May in support of their new 10-track album. While tickets are selling fast, some locations are not yet sold out. The closest place to check them out is May 9 at Marathon Music Works in Nashville.
