Asheville band Town Mountain rocks the Bijou on June 17th
Bluegrass strings and classic rock n’ roll lyrics brought the audience to its feet early on a sweltering Friday night in Downtown Knoxville. After forming in North Carolina in 2005, Town Mountain has made its name in the music scene, playing large venues across the southeast, west and several popular festivals. And the six-man band continues to take the bluegrass scene by storm. Town Mountain has shared the stage with some of the bluegrass/Americana greats, including Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, GreenSky Bluegrass, Railroad Earth and countless others.
Before taking the stage, Knoxville welcomed newcomer Cole Chaney. Hailing from the hills of Eastern Kentucky, Chaney performed original songs about coal mining, heartbreak and life in the mountains. Touching many of the fans in the audience about working in the mines and a slower pace of living, Chaney got the fans warmed up for an upbeat and jam filled show from the evening’s main attraction.
Town Mountain takes pride in their primarily bluegrass sound and during the show at the Bijou, the fellas played ‘Comeback Kid’ from their soon to be released album, as well as fan favorites such as ‘Down Low’ and their rendition of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘I’m on Fire.’
Town Mountain’s natural way to capture an audience is like none other, with energetic sounds and fun and relatable lyrics, they knew how to get the Scruffy City moving despite the heat. Town Mountain performed at the Caverns in Pelham that same weekend and they’ll be performing at several other festivals through October before they release a new album.
