On opening night of The Carpetbag Theatre’s final production in the 50th Anniversary Series, “Red Summer”, then Mayor Madeline Rogero and the 111th General Assembly officially named September 12th Carpetbag Theatre Day here in Knoxville, TN! In celebration of our 2nd annual celebration, we will be screening the hit original “Red Summer” on Facebook Live.
Amidst the social climate, Carpetbag has been relatively quiet, strategically looking for ways to artistically educate people on the history of people of color in this city. What better time than Carpetbag Theatre Day to give locals and the world a chance to experience this production about the race riots that took place in our very own Knoxville in 1919.
After the screening, there will be a Q&A session via Facebook Live in which audiences will have the opportunity to hear from Carpetbag’s Executive/Artistic Director, Jonathan Clark, former Executive/Artistic Director, Linda Parris-Bailey, and actors Kisha Rockett, Drew Drake, and Starr Releford from the production. They will be answering questions and sharing their thoughts on the production.
