Sex, Chocolate and Punk: The 1975 @ Marathon Music Works

Have you ever discovered that someone you adored actually had feelings for you through a Spotify playlist that was clearly dedicated to you…except you didn’t stumble across said playlist until six months too late? Yes, that actually happened to me. And one of the songs on this playlist was “Sex” by The 1975. So, I may not have gotten the boy, but at least he left me with a new music crush.

I was thrilled when this U.K. punk-rock/synth-pop band announced their U.S. tour and chose Nashville as one of their stops on May 15…and so was apparently every hipster within a 100-mile radius of Nashville. I have to admit: I’d never seen so many good-looking guys and girls in one room. So of course, lead singer Matt Healy noted: “I like it here in Nashville, Tennessee. It’s nice.” It also helped that the show was sold out and the room was packed with cheerful fans.

The 1975 delivered an energetic, kick-ass show, saving their most popular two songs “Chocolate” and “Sex” for last. All this was trumped by Healy’s unbuttoned shirt revealing a muscular naked chest, which had girls drooling over him – so much that a line of them clearly freezing in their in faux leather shorts and mini skirts in the cold was wrapped around the building after the show in hopes to catch one last glimpse of their crush…maybe even an autograph? I don’t know if the shivers paid off for them, but I sure hope so.
