One of the popular live performance music broadcasts produced by award-winning East Tennessee’s Own WDVX is getting a new home.
Tennessee Shines Radio Show will mark its third anniversary with a new location and new weekday beginning Wednesday, March 4, at Boyd’s Jig & Reel, a musical pub located in the historic Old City.
“WDVX is excited about Tennessee Shines at Boyd’s Jig and Reel, our venue partner. We are looking forward to some high energy fun with live radio broadcasts in a musical pub setting. We are excited about the energy that is brewing in Knoxville’s Old City and would love to share it with our listeners locally and around the world,” said WDVX Program Director Tony Lawson.
Jig and Reel owner Jenny Boyd shares WDVX’s enthusiasm for the project: “I started Boyd’s Jig and Reel with the mission of preserving and promoting our area’s roots music. I’ve always loved WDVX because they have the same goal and passion. I honestly believe this is a match made in heaven. I couldn’t be happier!”
The first Tennessee Shines Radio Show at Boyd’s will celebrate the Old City’s musical legacy with performers R.B. Morris, Greg Horne, and Jay Clark, as well as readings from Knoxville History Project President and history writer Jack Neely and live music advocate and longtime WDVX fan Appalachian Hippie Poet Bill Alexander. On March 11, performers will be East Tennessee native Trey Hensley and acclaimed Dobro player Rob Ickes.
“We’re proud to present a variety of performers for audiences to enjoy,” says show host Paige Travis. “It’s a celebration of Knoxville life on the radio.”
The Tennessee Shines broadcast is made possible by Visit Knoxville, Sugarlands Distilling Company, Crowne Plaza, The Tomato Head, and Blackhorse Brewery.
The hour-long, live radio show begins at 7 p.m. and includes headline musical performers, special guests, and readings by local and regional spoken word artists. Tickets will be available at the door beginning at 6 p.m. Admission is $10.
Tennessee Shines can be heard in Knoxville and surrounding areas on 89.9 FM, 93.9 FM, and 102.9 FM, and online at www.wdvx.com. Past shows are available for on-demand streaming for two weeks after the broadcast.
