Talk about a heater. Saturday’s lineup reads like a dream for any guitar loving soul who walks around breathing air. The weather is pure perfection, ranging from the mid 80′ during the day and 50’s in the evening. A lot happened and we will do our best to not get too carried away with the retelling.
Strand of Oaks
Tim Showalter remains one of the most humble musicians working today. He has a big personality, a big beard and a lot of heart. His set has gotten so much tighter and he is comfortable playing to bigger crowds. His opening slot on the Peachtree stage was unusually full for the noon hour and he took full advantage.
Showalter: I finally get to tell my dad that I opened for Huey Lewis and the News!
Here’s a fan shot clip from “JM” showcasing his shredding talents.
Shaky Graves
This set was delayed for 45 minutes of the hour long set, due to a power outage on the mid-sized Ponce de Leon stage. Alejandro Rose-Garcia did come out and play an acoustic song to the crowd before retreating back to work on getting power for the set. Fifteen minutes before it was to end, he got power and absolutely killed it. this allowed for a ten minute delay on all shows to give his over sized crowd a chance to see the performance. As a thank you, Garcia smashed a guitar and threw the pieces into the audience saying that he sacrificed the guitar as to the audience for the delay. And the crowd went bananas.
My Morning Jacket
When the chorus of Steam Engine struck its first note, the confetti rained down, and if you didn’t know any better, you’d think that destiny was real. But then the rain came. The Purple Rain that is. Jim James can belt it out, My Morning Jacket can tear it up, and in Centennial Park, on the night of May 14, 2016, the mixture made for a foot stomping, fist pumping, tear jerking success. My Morning Jacket are rock stars, and may one day be the world’s best band.

Explosions in the Sky
Wordless choruses. Wordless verses. Wordless everything. And yet Explosions In The Sky say so much. Personally, we find that the best way to watch EITS, is with our eyes closed. They helped us forget about everything going on in our lives for a while. All of my problems disappeared for an hour so, if you’re reading this, Explosions–I want to thank you for that. Thank you for the therapy for the soul.
