The 2016 edition of Live on the Green kicked off last night with White Denim, Allen Stone and Andra Day at Public Square Park, in Nashville, Tennessee. This is the eighth year for the highly successful and free festival thrown by Lightning 100. People. people everywhere, all settled in to enjoy the first of four mini festivals which feature a barrage of food trucks and activities for the whole family to enjoy. And of course, live music.

The show kicked off on a rowdy note with indie rockers. White Denim. The heat could not keep the loyal fans from packing into the not so large space. We caught these guys earlier this year at Okeechobee Fest and wow, have they honed their skills. It was good then, and great now.

Allen Stone‘s siren song called in the people from all around. Almost as if they heard the voice from Field of Dreams and came running. Stone’s soulful voice and exotic dancing (yes exotic) whipped the surging crowd into frenzy. During the set break leading into his performance, I was asked by a bald gentleman, if he could have my bun. I told him I was too lazy to grow another and feared it would never grow back. He high fived me (possibly our favorite move) and agreed to let me keep it.

Nashville Mayor Megan Barry stopped by to congratulate Lightinig 100 and Live on the Green for the kick off of its eight year in downtown Nashville.

Andra Day is soul music. She is sunshine and whiskey and elegance and confidence rolled up into a beautiful woman who’s music quite possibly could sooth an angry dragon. While we loved her songs, the Bob Marley cover of “Could You Be Loved” seemed to resonate with the happy dancing crowd.
