Everyone was anxiously awaiting this year’s Live On The Green – downtown Nashville’s annual free concert series, which starts out with weekly concerts every Thursday evening and ends with a three-day festival in early September. It’s completely free “because this is Music City, because we are Nashville, and because you deserve it,” the website states. In sum, it is the city’s celebration of passion for music and community.

Accompanied by perfect weather, the perfect band Lord Huron kicked off this year’s festivities as Thursday’s headliner. Although Lord Huron played at the Ryman rather recently, Nashville was thrilled to have them back again so soon: Public Square Park was packed with people dancing and singing along to the many songs ranging from old classics to new favorites off their new album Strange Trails. But the evening started with Nashville based Elliot Root and Austin’s Shakey Graves, who has received many praises by publications and channels such as NPR Music, Paste and The New York Times.

Live On The Green is not just about music, however. Many food trucks surrounded Public Square Park this year and foodies could find a plethora of delicacies – anything from boutique ice cream to Thai and barbeque. And just like in recent years, there was a photo booth stocked with fun props again this year, where fans could have their pictures taken, which were later on posted to Live On The Green’s official Facebook site.

The grand finale of Live On The Green will take place September 10-12. There will be two stages during those three days and shows will start as early as 1 pm. Ben Folds will close this year’s festival on Saturday night. Visit the website for the complete lineup and the official schedule.

Hope to see you on the green!
