SHOW REVIEW: Jay Stolar @ 12th and Porter

Jay Stolar 2013 Album CoverIf you were lucky, you caught the newcomer Jay Stolar at 12th and Porter in Nashville on Friday November 1st. Stolar, currently on tour with his debut album More Than We Think, which was released back in October, merges soul music with pop, resulting in a very approachable sound with catchy chorus hooks. No wonder his single “Like You Do” was already picked up by the TV show 90210.

The Brooklyn artist drew a young girl posse to the front of the stage, who were passionately singing along to every single one of his tracks. No surprise – this foxy singer knows how to surround himself with incredibly talented and good looking musicians. His keyboard player delivered a couple of insane solos that had the crowd cheering, while all the guys in the audience couldn’t take their eyes of his sexy bass player. Who doesn’t love a hot female bass player?

During the show, Stolar encouraged the audience to sing along. He also treated everyone to a couple of cover songs, including Macklemore’s “Thrift Shop” and “Royals” by Lorde. At some point, all the lights went out, and Stolar stepped out to the middle of the crowd to play a couple of acoustic songs. He finished his set with the song “Leading Me Down.”

All in all, this was a very well rounded show, nicely balanced between upbeat sing-along songs and intimate moments that allowed the audience to connect with Stolar on a deeper and more heartfelt level. One must admit that this artist sure knows how to put on an excellent show and how to please a crowd no matter how big the audience. Success is surely in the stars for this talented musician.
