Eastside Sunday Market Launches at Tabernacle Baptist Church June 3

The Eastside Sunday Market is pleased to announce the launch of our inaugural farmers’ market at Tabernacle Baptist Church on Sunday, June 3rd, 2-5pm. The community will be able to shop for a variety of locally-grown produce and crafts. The market is a community collaboration between: Nourish Knoxville, Tabernacle Baptist Church, the National Women in Agriculture, 5 Points Up, and SEEED Knoxville.

“Nourish Knoxville is proud to partner with the East Knoxville community to launch their own community market. We value cultivating and supporting relationships between farmers, producers, and the public throughout East Tennessee. We hope to continue working towards making sure all of our neighbors have access to fresh fruits and vegetables,” says Kimberly Pettigrew, Nourish Knoxville Local Food Initiative Coordinator.

The market has five vendors confirmed for opening day: Clay Halo Farm, Guzzle Hollow Farm, Happy Skin Naturals, Homemade Sin, and Two Chicks and a Farm. In addition to great shopping, the market will feature exciting activities and events throughout the season. Nourish Knoxville will host POP (Power of Produce) Club events every 4thSunday of the month from June-August. Each event will have an educational activity and produce tasting. Every participant, ages 2-12, will get $5 in vouchers to spend on fresh fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, and food producing plants.

“Tabernacle Baptist is proud to host the Eastside Sunday Market. Our community lacks access to fresh fruits and vegetables, and we decided it was time to work towards making our community healthier for generations to come. In addition to hosting the farmers’ market, Tabernacle Baptist Church has also launched a new community garden where neighbors can grow their own fresh fruits and vegetables,” says Tabernacle Baptist Church Pastor Chris Battle.

The market will take place every Sunday from June 3rd-August 26thfrom 2-5pm. The market is producer-only, and is still seeking farmer, crafter, and prepared food vendors to sell at the market.
