The 2017 Scruffy City Film & Music Festival will bring filmmakers and composers from all parts of the country to Knoxville July 27–30 for a four-day non-stop celebration of film and music at Scruffy City Hall in Market Square.
The 2017 Official Selections include 46 films chosen from hundreds of submissions from over forty countries. This year’s selections were picked exclusively from the filmmaker and composer submissions. The 2017 Feature Films and Special Screenings are:
Adele and Everything After – When a service dog named Adele comes into her life, a woman suffering a rare heart condition is transformed. But now Adele is coming to the end of her career, and the future is frightening.
The Salmon Will Run – The salmon runs are on the verge of extinction. Dams, poor water management and now climate change have rapidly depleted the salmon populations. This Special Event Screening will be hosted by Nahko Bear of Nahko and Medicine for the People.
No Roads In – Witness the creation of an album of gritty and authentic country music, recorded with analog equipment in just five days in an abandoned Alberta farmhouse.
When To Die – A thoughtful and gorgeously cinematic exploration of the community of Civil War re-enactors.
The Crest – Two long-lost cousins find each other through a family reunion trip to Ireland, where surfing and an old violin contribute to the rich tapestry of their family’s history.
Actors of Sound – Meet the people behind the low-tech art of creating sound effects for films.
Paper Lanterns – Hiroshima survivor Shigeaki Mori has spent his life tracking down and contacting the families of the 12 American POWs who died in the bombing. An immensely moving portrait of a man for whom compassion trumped nationality.
